Details Of 11-Year-Old Murderer's Past Are Disturbing

Murder is such a senseless crime, it's hard for the majority of human beings to conceive of taking the life of another. It's even more shocking when a violent murderer is just a child. One 11-year-old boy shocked his community by strangling a 4-year-old to death. As details about the 11-year-old are being revealed, many are asking why the warning signs went ignored.

As police investigate, they're finding that the unnamed 11-year-old who strangled four-year-old Braydan Trahern has a dark and violent past with multiple serious offenses. According to reports, the 11-year-old had previously tried to choke another child when he was younger. This was no childhood game - the victim in that incident had turned blue and the 11-year-old had to be pulled off of him.

Troubles began as early as age three or four, when the unnamed child set fire to his crib in his home with a lighter. The fire caused the whole house to burn down. The child, a victim of sexual abuse, had also been in trouble for sexually deviant behavior on a few occasions. His mother also reports that her son would dig up dead animals and dismember them, then 'carry them around as if they are still alive'.

Braydan, the victim, lived with his mother, Kyra Trahern, and her lover, Vanessa Jones. The 11-year-old is Jones' son. The unnamed child says he killed Braydan in a fit of anger when his mother told him she couldn't afford a birthday party or presents for him.

A male guest staying at the home says he was woken by the 11-year-old at 4 a.m. one morning and found Braydan unresponsive. The younger boy was slumped over and blood was trickling from his mouth. Jones attempted to administer CPR as the house guest called 911.

Braydan was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Suspicious bruises that are consistent with strangulation were found on the young boy’s neck.

The 11-year-old was taken to a juvenile detention facility and initially charged with aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm. The charges may be upgraded to murder now.

“This is very disturbing that something like this would happen,” said homicide officer said Capt. Dick Schauland. “He [the 11-year-old] has some anger problems and has been in rehab, so it is really frustrating when things like this happen and a life is lost. It’s a tough thing and tough on the detectives, especially with children.”

The 11-year-old boy's mother told authorities her son had 'a lot of anger issues and is on medication'. The boy had also been institutionalized in a sexual treatment facility for his behavior months before the murder. She said he seemed to behave, but he had gotten increasingly angry.

The child in custody demonstrated what he did to Braydan on a dummy for investigators. He says he was in 'his mood' so he 'squeezed and shook the younger child'. He also admits to shoving his knee in the younger boy's stomach as they were 'playing'

The 11-year-old told investigators that he knows what choking is. When it was over, he 'wanted Braydan to come back to life'.
