Despite Grave Diagnosis, Mom Lives To Tell About Her Victory Over Cancer

Almost ten years ago, Ashley Hallford of Douglasville, Georgia wasn’t thinking she’d be around to tell this tale. She had been diagnosed with stage four cancer and doctors told her she had just days to live. As People shares, Hallford beat back the dreaded disease, and she credits her faith for making it happen.

The woman had discovered a knot in the back of her neck, but she quickly blew it off as nothing too serious after she found out she was pregnant. That knot would turn out to be a cancerous lump.

“Pathologists from all over the country studied the lump. They all agreed that it was a rare and very aggressive, possibly hormonally fueled cancer. But nobody could diagnose it,” she recalls.

She was induced into labor a little early so she could begin treatment, but cancer had already started to spread.

“In February or March 2008, at my church, they started praying and fasting, for the whole month. I continued chemo through July 2008, and then had more scans to check progress. I was praying because if there was no change or things were worse, I would be out of options,” Hallford said.

Doctors told her and her family to prepare for the worst, and Hallford would turn to her faith even more. Then, a veritable miracle happened.

“Theoretically, with stage 4 cancer, you’re not curable. I met Ashley when she was pregnant, when she had the neck mass. After her first round of treatment, more disease was found in her lungs, and she was retreated. After that, she’s been disease free … it’s nothing short of miraculous,” said medical oncologist, Dr. Debra Miller.

Hallford doesn’t have a doubt in her mind about what led her on the road to recovery. She has now been in remission for nine years.

“I credit my recovery to God, 100 percent,” she said.
