Dad's Response To Crying Baby Prompts Mom To Take Child And Flee

A man in Tennessee was arrested after his wife reported him to the police for abusing their 3-month-old baby. The mom said she was disturbed by her husband's behavior, but he threatened to abuse her as well. As soon as she got a chance, she snatched the baby and fled from the home.

Cornelio A. Hunt got home from work late, and he was ready to go to sleep. Unfortunately, his newborn baby was doing what babies are known to do: crying. The 3-month-old boy wouldn't settle down, so the angry father began abusing the child.

Jennilyn Hunt said that her 46-year-old husband began striking their baby on the legs. She tried to tell her husband that she would bring the baby into another room to get him to settle down, but a furious Hunt wouldn't have it.

Hunt picked the baby up by the ankles and carried him around, upside-down, as the desperate mother pleaded with him. The father threatened to "whip her like he was whipping the baby", according to the arrest warrant.

He stuffed a rag in the baby's mouth, and to prevent the rag from falling out, he put tape over the mouth.

Mrs. Hunt was finally able to get her baby away from the abusive father and she fled the home as soon as she thought it was safe. She took the baby to Tennova Healthcare, and he was then sent to Our Kids for an exam. Thankfully the baby seems okay.

Mr. Hunt was arrested and is now facing felony charges of child abuse, neglect, and domestic assault. He's being held on a $105,000 bond.

The story was first reported by the local paper, the Leaf-Chronicle. Comments came pouring into their Facebook page to give the baby's mother credit for her bravery.

“Can [I] just say good job by the mom? At least she did something instead of allowing him to hurt her child and making excuses for him like we see too often nowadays. If you're reading this, stay strong!! You can do this,” said one commenter.

“Poor baby. I pray he didn't suffer any injuries. I'm proud of his wife for turning him in and getting out of there! I would never trust him again around my son if I were her,” said another.

“I hope the mother keeps this baby away from its father! I don't care if he was having a bad day or any other excuse someone might come up with! Some people shouldn't be blessed with children!!! That poor baby," another commenter said.

Sadly, in some situations, women threatened with violence remain silent and are afraid to break free of their abuser. They think that trying to leave might set off the violent partner’s rage, and that they won’t get the kind of help that they need.

It is hard to pull away from an abusive situation, but it can save a child’s life. There are a number of women out there who have to live with the loss of a child, knowing they didn’t do something to prevent the tragedy when they had the chance.
