Dad's Daughter Taken From Him, Two Years Later He Gets Unexpected Call

A grant from nonprofit Time to Put Kids First is sending a man and his 5-year-old daughter who he had been separated from for over two years to Kauai, Hawaii.

"It's about building memories," Thouvenel, 41, commented.

Bryan Thouvenel, an aspiring songwriter who had fathered two daughters before he was 30, said he went to karaoke night at a bar in 2010. He met a girl there and fell in love.

The ensuing two-year relationship resulted in a daughter with the middle name Rain. But the relationship went bad, and his ex-took Harmony Rain and moved off to Washington.

He tried to search for the pair but did not have much luck. He decided to file for custody at the Douglas County Courthouse and was eventually awarded custody in the spring of 2015.

Just recently, Thouvenel located his daughter and estranged ex-girlfriend at a Salvation Army homeless shelter in Spokane, Washington. He got a court order and waited for the deputy to arrive.

"I sat there and the next thing you know I've got my daughter coming out, walking by herself," Thouvenel explained. "She's kind of looking around, and I said her name once. She kind of looked at me funny and I said 'Harmony, it's daddy.' Her eyes just kind of lit up."

While it was a joyous reunion, it was not all roses. Harmony needed constant reminding that Thouvenel was there to stay. During a trip after returning home to Oregon, the little girl would wait outside the door when Thouvenel went to the bathroom.

He hooked up with Washington-based nonprofit “Time to Put Kids First”, the group that’s their trip to Hawaii, a few months ago. Thouvenel notes the trip will include plenty of beaches, relaxation and time for bonding.
