Dad Goes Into Room To Clean - Terrified When He Sees What's Laying Next To Crib

A dad was doing some routine housework. As he vacuumed the baby's room, he came across something terrifying: a snake hiding next to his child's crib. The parents immediately called snake handlers to take care of the situation. They managed to keep cool heads about it, though some people wouldn't be able to remain that calm.

The Australian dad was cleaning when he spotted the slithering reptile hiding between the wall and a box of diapers. Snakes are pretty common in Australia, but outside - in houses, not so much. The dad was afraid that the snake was a deadly venomous species so he kept an eye on it as he called for help.

The unnamed father called the Sunshine Coast Catchers and then waited in the baby's room, keeping an eye on the intruder the whole time. When the snake catcher arrived, he was easily able to trap the reptile.

The snake trapper posted photos to his Facebook page of what he saw when he arrived. "Not a good place to find a snake!" he wrote. "A Little Mountain local was vacuuming his house today when he saw what he thought to be a young Brown Snake in the baby’s room! Keeping an eye on the snake he gave us a call and I rushed out. The culprit was actually a mildly venomous Yellow-faced Whipsnake. See if you can find him in this photo!"

Facebook users with a good eye were able to make out the creature hiding in the corner.

The home owner also posted photos online of the handler trapping the snake with a long tool. "Isn't half the fun of parenting just taking massive risks with your child? Snakes in the room, teddy bears on top of the cot, MESH BUMPERS," the parent joked.

Some people were unable to find any humor at all in a snake lurking under a bed. For many individuals, that is their worst nightmare. If you are one of those people who suffer from ophidiophobia, you're not alone. Fear of snakes is one of the most common phobias. One-third of all adults have it, making it the most commonly reported phobia.

Scientists actually believe that there is a biological reason for this phobia: survival. According to National Geographic, fear of things like snakes and spiders are rooted in evolution.

"Their brains certainly had to be effective in identifying reptiles in the world around them," said Stockholm, Sweden psychologist Arne Öhman.

"Evolution has equipped mammals with a readiness to easily associate fear to recurrent threats in their evolution," said Öhman. "Thus, given that fear is activated when a snake is around, they condition fear to the snake much easier than to other stimuli that are around."

Next time someone calls you a ‘chicken’ because some creepy-crawlies gave you goosebumps and made you jump, don’t feel bad or get embarrassed about it. Just tell the person you were ‘born that way’.
