Customer Rejects Waitress Because Of Appearance - Community Won't Let That Kind Of Behavior Slide

One red-faced customer is keeping her name anonymous after she was shamed by a major corporation and an entire community. She insulted a waitress, treating the young, hard-working woman like garbage. The waitress was upset, but the beautiful show of support she got has made it ultimately turn into a positive experience.

Ashley Chiarizzio works at a Red Robin in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. A customer called a manager over to request a different server. Apparently, Chiarizzio 's blue hair and tattoos really turned the customer off.

“He told me, ‘She doesn’t like the way you look,'” Chiarizzio explained to News 2. “He said, ‘She doesn’t like the way you represent – the tattoos, the piercings, hair – she wants a new server.'”

The 24-year-old was upset at the customer's behavior, but she makes no apologies for her looks. “This is me,” Chiarizzio said. “I like the wow factor from family and friends.”

The young waitress couldn't believe the response she got from her community after she wrote about it on Facebook. People began praising her looks. Locals started coming into the Red Robin asking to be served by Chiarizzio. She's received gifts and tips.

“People were saying, ‘You’re awesome,'” she said. “It’s 100 percent overwhelming happiness and positivity from the community.”

Best of all, her employer is backing her up. Red Robin says the waitress is not violating the dress code. They also said to News 2 that they have a non-discrimination policy, and customers can't request a new server for discriminatory reasons such as looks.

On Friday night, Chiarizzio's co-workers took a stand in solidarity with her. They all got blue wigs or temporary blue hair coloring, and some sported fake tattoos. “It’s basically to say, ‘If you didn’t like it, you can’t sit with any of us because now we all have blue hair and tattoos,’" the waitress explained.
