Crystal Hefner Breaks Silence On Passing Of Her Legendary Husband

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner passed away last week at the age of 91 from natural causes. Tributes quickly poured in from those whose lives were touched by the man known as ‘Hef,’ but his widow has kept out of the spotlight since her husband’s passing. As the New York Daily News shares, 31-year-old Crystal Hefner has broken her silence to offer up a touching statement.

“I haven’t been able to bring myself to write most people back to thank them for their condolences. I am heartbroken. I am still in disbelief. We laid him to rest Saturday. He is in the place he was always certain he wanted to spend eternity,” she said in a statement. “He was an American hero. A pioneer. A kind and humble soul who opened up his life and home to the world.”

The couple wed back in 2012, marking Hefner’s third trip down the aisle. He was previously married to Mildred Williams from 1949 through 1959, and Kimberly Conrad from 1989 through 2010.

“I felt how much he loved me. I loved him so much. I am so grateful. He gave me life. He gave me direction. He taught me kindness. I will feel eternally grateful to have been by his side, holding his hand, and telling him how much I love him,” Crystal added. “He changed my life, he saved my life. He made me feel loved every single day. He was a beacon to the world, a force unlike anything else. There never has and never will be another Hugh M. Hefner. I join the world in mourning. I thank you for all of your condolences. To the people leaving sentiments at the front gate, we see you and grieve with you.”

Hefner built a publishing empire from his kitchen table. His first issue of Playboy magazine featured movie star Marilyn Monroe on the cover, and sales skyrocketed as a result. Appropriately, he was laid to rest at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles in a plot directly next to Monroe’s that he had gone out of his way to purchase. Hefner’s son, Cooper, issued a statement soon after his father passed away.

“My father lived an exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer and a leading voice behind some of the most significant social and cultural movements of our time in advocating free speech, civil rights and sexual freedom,” he said. “He defined a lifestyle and ethos that lie at the heart of the Playboy brand, one of the most recognizable and enduring in history.”

As his publishing empire took off, Hefner built a legendary lifestyle that became the envy of folks across the globe. His parties at the Playboy mansion became the stuff of legends, and he would go on to develop friendships with a veritable who’s who in the world of entertainment. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of the pop culture giant.
