Courtroom Stunned When Judge Announces Sentencing For Man Who Molested A Child 100 Times

One Nevada judge thought he went too far when he sentenced a child molester to life in prison. So, he changed his mind and gave him one year in jail and five years probation instead.

According to Raw Story, Washoe District Judge Brent Adams said his verbal sentencing of Isaac Onsurez was due to a clerical error.

Onsurez would have been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison, and eligible for parole after 10 years. He pleaded guilty to lewdness with a minor under 14, which according to Raw Story, has a 10-year minimum prison term.

Onsurez is accused of sexually abusing a 6-year-old family member more than 100 times in two years. Prosecutors say that the abuse ended on Dec. 31, 1999, but the penalty for that crime was probation before that date.

The victim reported the abuse in 2012 after another family friend reported similar crimes. Onsurez admitted to molesting the victim which he described as a “curious child that wanted sex,” and said he was aware he was doing wrong but couldn’t stop himself.

“It was the harshest sentence he could impose, and that was the justice we were looking for,” said the victim’s mother, according to Raw Story. “Then two days later we get a phone call. If you are a young adult and suffered child sexual abuse in Washoe County, more than likely if it happened in the 1990s, your abuser is not going to receive prison (sentence).”
