Couple Speechless After Discovering This Celebrity Secretly Bought Them Their Engagement Ring Before He Died
Although he passed away four years ago now, actor Paul Walker was known as a stand-up guy.
In testament to this, a military couple whose engagement ring was secretly bought by the generous actor came forward after finally having their suspicions confirmed that Walker was the one who had bought the ring.
Newlyweds Kyle and Kristen Upham were in a Santa Barbara jewelry store in 2004 shopping for a diamond ring before he was heading back for his second deployment to Iraq.
They soon recognized that the other shopper in the store was Walker and introduced themselves. Kyle told the Fast and Furious star he had recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.
Kristen Upham noted in an interview: “When he [Walker] found out Kyle just came back from Iraq - I remember seeing the look in his face. He kind of transformed.”
The Uphams decided they could not afford the $9,000 diamond band that Kristen really wanted, and were going to think some more about the ring, so they left the store.
However, a sales clerk called them and told them to come back to the store - where they were told an anonymous friend had bought the ring for them.
It turns out that Walker had told the manager of the store to bill him for the ring.
When the Uphams asked who bought it for them, the store staff honored Walker's request for anonymity.
The couple held on to the gift receipt, and say they suspected it had been the star, but had no proof.
The store kept Walker's identity under wraps for years, but after the 40-year-old actor’s death in a car accident back in 2013, employee Irene King thought it was time to speak out.
Kristen Upham commented that Walker's gesture was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for her.
She continued to note: “His real life speaks volumes of his character. He really did put his money where his mouth is and did good for this world.”
