Couple Share Photo Of "Adorable" Thai Thieves - Didn't Even Know They Were Being Robbed

A man and woman went to Thailand and were sightseeing outside of a picturesque temple when they noticed a couple of adorable little girls. Dressed in traditional garb, they snapped some photos of the eye-catching little cherubs. The man asked the two girls to pose for a picture with his girlfriend. It was a great shot, but later the woman noticed her watch was missing.

The unnamed man posted a photo to Reddit showing the two girls in costume flanking his girlfriend outside of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. The girlfriend smiles for the camera and each little girl grabs hold of a hand. When they got the pictures back, they took a closer look and realized that one of the littler girls was doing a bit more than just posing; she was taking the woman's watch off.

The couple didn't even realize it at the time, but later the watch turned up missing. They couldn't find it and the woman assumed she had simply lost it. Then they started looking through their vacation photos.

"This pic solved the mystery of the missing watch," the man said, posting the photo to Reddit. "Adorable, adorable thieves. I didn't suspect a thing when I saw them."

"I've seen those little thieves before," said another poster.

Apparently, the little crime duo is known for their antics.

In scouring photos, they found more pictures of little girls, about the age of six, dressed in similar traditional costumes that hang about the area. Someone wondered if they could be an 'organized gang' who lie in wait of unsuspecting tourists.

One of the commenters pointed out that the girls were using well-known pick-pocketing techniques: touching the victim in multiple places at once to distract her from the fact that her watch was being stripped off her wrist. "Notice how the thief is touching her hand in several places? It's a pickpocket technique so that the mark gets accustomed to being touched by the thief and stops registering all of the touches," they wrote.

One fellow traveler said he had gone to Thailand and was approached by the pair, but decided at the last minute not to take a picture with them. He dodged a bullet. "Holy c--p! I was tempted to ask for a photo with them when we saw them at the temple but didn't want to be 'that tourist' and was also worried that their momager who was lingering around might scream at me for money if I went near them."

Another said that it's an impoverished area; taking pictures by dressing up for tourists is probably how they make money.

The girls were eventually tracked down by the Daily Mail. They said they did nothing wrong; they just liked to dress up and go to the temple after school to take pictures. Their father said that they don't beg or steal; they simply rely on the generosity of strangers wanting to get a photo taken.

The governor of Chiang Mai launched an investigation into the situation when he got wind of it. He wants to protect the tourism of his city. The girls, he said, have a record of good behavior and no one has ever complained before. "We have therefore concluded that there is no grounds to believe this false accusation."
