Couple Outraged After Waiter Whispers This To Them During Dessert

A couple was out enjoying a nice dinner date when their waiter's comment completely ruined their time.

A waiter offended a same-sex couple at a restaurant in Washington D.C. on Sunday night when they ordered a dessert to share. According to reports, the waiter told the two gentlemen that it doesn't 'look right' for them to eat ice cream out of the same bowl. The stunned couple said they didn't even know what to say.

A gay couple went to Washington D.C.'s 'The Prime Rib', a spot famous for romantic, candlelit dinners. Partners 55-year-old Ron Gage and 58-year-old Henry McKinnon were enjoying a beautiful dinner, but the romance was quickly killed at the end of the meal when the two men ordered dessert. The waiter was the one who killed it when he didn't want to let them share a sundae.

Gage and McKinnon said the night started off well. The two had reservations to the hot spot and showed up on time. They were seated and ordered appetizers. They joked with their server throughout the night. Then they were blindsided.

“When it came time for dessert, we asked for one sundae with two spoons,” Gage said.

The men said the server responded by telling them that he would bring the dessert split up into two separate dishes. "It wouldn’t look right with two gentlemen eating out of the same sundae. It doesn’t go with the ambiance of the restaurant."

“We were speechless, we nodded,” Gage said. “We weren’t expecting it.”

Gage and McKinnon said they couldn't believe what happened, it stunned them so much that they just went on in shock. They paid for the meal, left a 15 percent tip (low for them, as they usually tip 20 percent), and walked out of the restaurant trying to process what happened.

“I’m kind of embarrassed to say we didn’t say anything,” McKinnon said. “It just took us back to such a shameful place, in a way.”

Later in the evening, as the shock wore off, they started to become angry about the incident. They took to Facebook and Yelp to complain about the restaurant.

Reporters began calling the restaurant, and manager James MacLeod quickly began investigating. He didn’t even know about the incident, which occurred on Thursday night, until he started getting calls for comments. He told the Washington Post that the waiter was Bulgarian and spoke several languages, so he wondered if it was a mistake. Either way, he said it was 'unacceptable'.

“I cannot believe that a waiter would have ever said anything like that,” MacLeod said. “There’s no way we would condone anything remotely like this.”

There is no word on whether the restaurant has reached out directly to Gage and McKinnon to make amends for the embarrassing incident, but the manager did offer a public apology and ensured that action was taken.

The waiter denied that he had 'shamed' the couple in any way. He has been fired, MacLeod reports.

“I do apologize. This restaurant in no way would have condoned any kind of action like that,” MacLeod said.
