Couple Horrified When They Discover What's Climbed Into Bed With Them

One couple got a nasty bedtime surprise as they looked forward to getting a good night's rest. After their experience, it's unlikely they'll be getting much rest for a while.

One of the most common phobias is Ophidiophoia, or the fear of snakes. If you have this fear, there are some places in the world to which you should never consider moving, because snakes are more common there. One of those places is Australia, a place where snakes are always taking people by surprise.

One couple in Australia were in bed on Wednesday morning in their Murarrie home when they realized they weren't alone. A snake had slithered into the room.

This wasn't just any snake; it was one of the most venomous snakes in the world. It was an eastern brown snake that intruded on their leisurely morning. Eastern browns cause more deaths from snakebite in Australia than any other snake.

After spotting the snake, the couple, who are reportedly in their 30's, quickly called a snake catcher. They asked the operator to dispatch someone quickly to capture the deadly reptile.

“I received a call from a woman informing me about the snake. She told me that it was on their bedroom floor,” said Stewart Lalor, an employee with Elite Snake Catching Services, according to the Daily Mail Australia. “But, when I got there, the snake had quickly moved up to the couple's bed and I eventually found it under their blanket.”

Lalor manage to wrangle the reptile without incident. Snake lovers don't have to worry, though; he didn't slay the serpent. Instead, Lalor brought the snake to a local creek where it would have 'enough food supply' and released it in the wild.

“It would be pointless to leave them in a big open area with no food source as they will only make their way back into homes,” Lalor said.

Hopefully, that snake will stay outdoors from now on instead of trying to play Goldie Locks. A deadly snake is just not something anyone wants to find cuddling up under their covers.

Lalor reminds amateurs not to try this at home. If you don't know what you're doing, leave the snake handling to the professionals. "It was safely removed and relocated away from any properties, always remember to leave snakes alone and call a professional snake catcher to deal with the situation," he concluded in a Facebook post, complete with pictures of the hissing creature.

“Not exactly the best place to encounter a highly venomous snake,” the post read. “Fortunately these guys have no interest in humans and are only dangerous when interacted with, however in a situation like this the outcome could have been unfavorable.”

It seems snake catching can be a busy business in Australia. In August, one dad was helping to tidy up his infant daughter's room a bit. As he was vacuuming he spotted a snake coiled under the baby's crib. In another incident, a family woke up to find a big eastern brown snake coiled up in her toddler's Lego structure.

In one Australian news office, workers were screaming when a large snake was found hiding behind some folders on a desk. The office workers joined forces in trying to catch it. They fashioned a makeshift hook out of wire, and while a very brave lady wrestled with it her co-worker opened a canvas shopping bag to hold it.

It’s enough to make you want to move to Ireland. Too bad St. Patrick didn’t make it down to Australia.
