Couple Finds Puppies Abandoned In Woods With Horrifying Note Attached To Box

Puppies are a welcome addition to most homes, but some pet owners just don’t have the accommodations to house a full litter. When that’s the case, there’s plenty of other avenues that can be pursued. For example, the pups can simply be placed up for adoption. There’s always some kind of market for puppies, and you would be surprised how much response a well-worded ad will receive.

Those that prefer not to go that route can always look into shelter options, as virtually every community can point you in the right direction for where to turn when you need some help finding a home for a furry little friend. Despite those two obvious options, a couple in Texas would realize that not everyone sees things so clearly and bluntly. They would be stunned to find six abandoned puppies in a box in the woods, and they would be horrified by the note that was attached to the box.

As Honest to Paws shares, the disturbing note contained only two words.

“Shoot me,” the note read.

The puppies were emaciated but still living, and the couple did what they could to make sure these pups would find a good home. They would end up getting in touch with a volunteer for The Underdog Project, an organization which provides medical care to stray and neglected dogs in the Dallas area. The volunteer collected the puppies as fast as she could, and an initial checkup with a vet was scheduled.

The vet determined that the pups were about a month old, and the pups were diagnosed with a variety of maladies and ailments. They were quickly christened with the names of Greek gods: Aries, Apollo, Aphrodite, Athena, Atlas, and the smallest, Hera. Unfortunately, three of the pups would quickly take a turn for the worse.

That trio wound up with full-blown coccidia infections, and they would have to be rushed to the hospital. Sadly, two of them would succumb to the infection. The third pup would eventually return to the volunteer’s care, albeit a little bit more subdued than normal. Fast forward to today, and the volunteer is still seeking forever homes for the four remaining pups, but she is thoroughly enjoying their company.

This is an incredibly sad story that could have turned out even worse. Who knows how long the dogs would’ve lasted out in the woods, or what would have happened if someone else had come across the box. We’ll never know the answer to that, but it goes without saying that those that abandoned these puppies should be royally ashamed of themselves. We are not currently living in some sort of monolithic era. As such, there are generally options to life’s little inconveniences that can properly be explored to find a solution that works.
