As Country Mourns Barbara Bush, One Professor Slams the Former First Lady, Calling Her 'Racist'

A cocky professor spoke ill of the dead, but doesn't think she'll suffer any consequences for it. The professor jumped on Twitter after receiving the news that former First Lady Barbara Bush had passed away on Tuesday. The professor said Mrs. Bush was an 'amazing racist'.

From both sides of the political aisle, social media users were sending out tributes to the recently deceased Bush. Former President Bill Clinton tweeted that she was a 'remarkable woman'. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania put out a joint statement which read, "She will be long remembered for her strong devotion to country and family, both of which she served unfailingly well."

Randa Jarrar slammed Bush on Twitter, telling people leaving tributes, ""F--k outta here with your nice words."

The English professor proceeded to call Bush a 'generous and smart and amazing racist who, along with her husband, raised a war criminal'.

Jarrar's tweet about the former First Lady, former President George H.W. Bush, and former President George W. Bush, drew a great deal of backlash. The unapologetic professor added later, "What I love about being an American professor is my right to free speech, and what I love about Fresno State is that I always feel protected and at home here,].”

"If you'd like to know what it's like to be an Arab American Muslim American woman with some clout online expressing an opinion, look at the racists going crazy in my mentions right now," Jarrar later tweeted of her critics.

According to a statement from Fresno State, Jarrar's comments caused 'deep concerns', however they noted that the comments were personal. The university extends condolences to the Bush family but does not appear to have any plans to reprimand Jarrar.

"Her statements were made as a private citizen, not as a representative of Fresno State," the statement by university president Joseph Castro read. "Professor Jarrar's expressed personal views and commentary are obviously contrary to the core values of our University, which include respect and empathy for individuals with divergent points of view, and a sincere commitment to mutual understanding and progress."

Bush passed away in her Houston home on Tuesday at the age of 92 of complications from congestive heart disease and chronic pulmonary disease (COPD). Mrs. Bush opted to forgo further medical treatment and focus on comfort.

George H.W. Bush and Barbara were married 73 years. They met when she was 16 years old at a dance around Christmastime. They went on to be wed and had six children, 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

After her husband stepped down from the White House, the couple retired and moved to Texas. She went on to campaign for her son, George, as well as for Jeb Bush, the Governor of Florida.

When Jeb attempted to run for president, his mother initially warned him that the country might have felt they had "enough Bushes."

"My dear mother has passed on at age 92," said former President George W. Bush said in a written statement. "Laura, Barbara, Jenna, and I are sad, but our souls are settled because we know hers was. Barbara Bush was a fabulous first lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love and literacy to millions."
