Cops Warn Parents About ‘Bunny Hunting’ A New Game That Targets Children

Police are concerned about online predators, and just how vulnerable children are. One cop goes from school to school warning kids about 'bunny hunting.'

Bunny hunting is what pedophiles call it when they go online to scope out unsuspecting children. The goal is to sexually exploit children in some way.

Children online are easily manipulated into sending naked selfies, engaging in explicit sexual conversation (sexting), and sometimes are even goaded into meeting a pedophile.

Sgt. James Spurlock of Loudoun County, Virginia visits middle schools and high schools in order to warn kids about predatory adults.

“There’s more people on the Internet in the world than there’s ever been and as technology becomes easier and cheaper, it ends up in the hands of people that couldn’t have afforded it 10 or 15 years ago,” Spurlock explains. “It puts more young people into technology. It puts more access to predators who 20 years ago had no access to them and can now simply sit on their computer at home or in an Internet cafe or Starbucks and reach out and talk to hundreds of kids with no real effort.”

Spurlock asks kids how many would tell their parents if someone sent them inappropriate content or requests. Very few children ever raise their hands - most kids are too afraid they'll be punished or lose their devices.

“One in 5 of you will be a victim before you turn 18. One in 5,” Spurlock warns them. That's a sobering statistic, and hopefully kids will walk out of the classroom a little wiser that day.
