Cops Respond To Call About Party - Instead Of Breaking It Up, They Join In

It was a hot Fourth of July weekend, and neighbors on one street decided to set up something exciting and fun for a block party. It seems some people were having just a little too much fun, and where there is fun there is always someone complaining. Unbeknownst to the Independence Day revelers, someone in the neighborhood wasn't up for water games. The stick-in-the-mud called police to complain, and patrol officers were dispatched to check into the situation.

When the police showed up to the Asheville, North Carolina party, people thought the party was over. Officers said they were responding to a complaint about the giant slip-and-slide blocking the road. When the officers showed up, they quickly realized that the complainer was grossly exaggerating and trying to cause trouble. The slip-and-slide was on the side of the road and wasn't blocking anything.

"We looked at it and determined it wasn't really an issue," said Officer Carrie Lee in a police department video posted to Twitter. "So the first thing I said, I said I'm not here to break up your fun."

In fact, Officer Lee and her partner, Officer Joe Jones, even asked if they could get in on the fun. Resident Katlen Joyce Smith said everyone was delighted when police 'asked if they could take a turn'.

“It was her idea,” said Jones, pointing to his partner.

Officer Lee wrapped herself in a plastic garbage bag to protect her uniform and slid the length of the slip-and-slide, hands in the air, shouting 'wooooo!' the whole way down. She was having a blast. Delighted neighbors filmed their new guests having fun, cheering them on.

Next thing you know, in full uniform, officer Jones wanted to give it a try. He and a young party goer jumped on an inner tube together and went for a ride. The officer was in full uniform and a big wave came over the side of the inner tube.

“My butt is wet," he laughed. The officers admitted that it did feel good, though, to cool off a little bit. There’s nothing better to beat the heat than a water slide.

"I still can't handle the amazing-ness of it all," Smith wrote in a Facebook post. She shared the video of the two officers getting goofy and getting into the spirit of the party.

Smith only has one hope that would make it a perfect day: "I hope the neighbor who called them saw it all go down!!"

If the neighbor didn’t manage to catch the live show, no doubt the party pooper caught the film later. The video got attention from the local media and made the news. The officers were interviewed and talked about what a good time they had.

Hopefully, that’ll teach the grumpy neighbor not to try and ruin people’s fun. Maybe instead of complaining, this person should throw on a swimsuit and join the fun.
