Cops Didn’t Know They Were Being Watched While Doing This - It’s Going Viral

A woman out on the Chicago streets spotted a sight that is, sadly, all too familiar. A homeless man sat shivering in a bus stop shelter wrapped in a blanket. When women saw police walk up and approach the homeless man, she grabbed her camera.

Elizabeth Horan, at the time, did not realize the picture she took would accompany an inspirational story. She had no idea what the police and the homeless man were talking about. She found out the officers were called when someone reported the man was loitering at the bus stop.

The homeless man explained to the officers that he had tried to get on the bus, but the driver refused to let him on. The homeless man wasn't wearing any shoes. He had a pair, but the soles were completely worn away, leaving the man's feet exposed to the hard, cold pavement.

The officers could have just told the man to stay away from the bus stop and called it a day. They had no obligation to him. His shoe problem wasn’t their problem. Dozens of people had probably passed the man that day, completely ignoring him and his needs. It’s become common in big cities with large homeless populations for people to turn a blind eye.

Instead, they decided it was time for a random act of kindness. The officers walked the man to a nearby Payless store and bought him a pair of brand new boots. The man was overwhelmed. He told the officers that now that he has shoes, he could look for a job.

Horan sent the photo she snapped to the police department with a shout-out to the two officers. "The Norridge Police Department stopped to give a homeless person on Harlem and Irving a new pairs of shoes! They also waited to make sure they fit. This is amazing. Thank you!! Great Job Officers!"

The department promptly and proudly displayed it on their Facebook page.
