Construction Workers Stumble Upon Historical Find - Archaeologists Can’t Believe What They Found

Construction workers in Spain hit the jackpot when they unearthed a stash of ancient Roman coins. Archeologists are stunned by the discovery. The treasure could be worth millions.

The workers were digging a ditch for a new waterline in Andalusia when they found 19 clay storage jars. Some had been damaged, but some were intact. Each storage jar was full of Roman coins. The coins weighed approximately 1,300 pounds.

The coins, mostly bronze, have been dated back to the third and fourth centuries. Most are in mint condition and are believed to have been uncirculated currency. The stash was thought to have been originally meant for taxes or to pay Roman soldiers. They bear the images of emperors Maximian and Constantine.

Ditch digging has been suspended so that archeologists can further excavate the spot. The coins alone are estimated to be worth several million euro.
