Concealed Weapon Carrier Intervenes During Liquor Store Robbery

A masked man, later identified as 55-year-old Reginald Gildersleeve, walked into the store and currency exchange about 7 p.m. Saturday on Chicago's southwest side.

He then showed his handgun and announced he was robbing the store. After that, he pointed his gun at another employee, while forcing her to the back of the store.

Yet, a customer with a concealed carry license fatally shot the robber several times. Gildersleeve was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:10 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

He had an extensive criminal history, including prior arrests for robbery. His autopsy was set for Sunday. It isn't clear whether or not the customer will face charges.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said, "We're looking at it as a self-defense issue at this point."
