Community Shocked When Daughter Kills Mother After Years Of Medical Care

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was found guilty for her role in the murder of her mother, 48-year-old Dee Dee Blanchard, back in 2015. The 23-year-old woman ordered her boyfriend to stab her mother to death, and she then took to social media to express glee at her mother’s passing. As Yahoo explains, she received a relatively lenient sentence. Here’s why.

It was believed that Gypsy Rose was disabled. As her attorney explained to the court, that’s because her mother forced her to pretend that she was. She was remanded to a wheelchair and essentially held captive at her home in Springfield, Missouri for a decade. Her mother assigned her a whole host of phantom illnesses, including a mysterious bout with leukemia when she was a young child, and muscular dystrophy in her teenage years.

Even her father, Rod Blanchard, was in the dark as to what was going on. He was divorced from his daughter’s mom, and he indicates that he was in “total shock” when his daughter was able to walk into the courtroom under her own power.

“I really, genuinely believed that she had some issues,” he said.

Gypsy Rose has accepted a 10-year plea deal on charges of second-degree murder. After her mother’s slaying, she would take to social media with an expression of joy.

“The b**** is dead,” she wrote.

The twisted tale is now the subject of an upcoming HBO documentary entitled “Mommy Dead and Dearest.” The film goes through the strange history of the Blanchard family, as well as what the mother’s motivation was for portraying her daughter as being disabled.

“Dee Dee was really good at convincing me that there was a problem. I never, ever can fathom that she was really in the hospitals, and the doctors wouldn’t have caught onto something at some point over the years,” Rod added.
