Community Baffled Over Football Game Banning American Flag for THIS Reason

After trying to keep the peace between two high schools, the Greenville County School District and principals of Travelers Rest and Berea High Schools are explaining why American flags weren’t allowed to be brought into a recent football game between the school

The school district says they didn’t want to offend the Hispanic community at Berea High School.

"The flag has been used in the past to taunt Berea students and community that has led to confrontation,” Principal Lou Lavely told WYFF News 4. “Student safety (and in the case of a football game, safety of all attending) is our primary concern. It is the responsibility of the school to provide the safest environment possible and no object, sign, chants by students, etc. would be permitted if they compromise safety."

Lavley had a very long message to his students and the community.

"This decision would be made any time that the American flag, or any other symbol, sign, cheer, or action on the part of our fans would potentially compromise the safety of all in attendance at a school event,” Lavley said. "Just as importantly, using the American flag to display disrespect and unsportsmanlike behavior, is in itself improper and disrespectful to our flag.”

The principal at Berea High School and the superintendent of the school district all had Valley's back on his decision.
