Clint Eastwood Is Finally Revealing His Heartbreaking Story After Staying Silent For 60 Years

Clint Eastwood is undoubtedly a Hollywood legend, but his humble beginnings didn't point to stardom. The celebrity came from a poor but hard-working family and nearly died in a plane crash at one point.

Eastwood's father was a migrant worker and his mother worked in a factory. Growing up, Eastwood struggled with poverty and had difficulty in school. He was labeled a bit of a troublemaker and was ever trying to make up for poor grades.

Eastwood has admitted that as a teen he never thought about fame; he was more interested in 'fast cars and easy women.’ He took on a series of blue collar jobs as a mechanic. He worked on car and plane engines, then decided to enlist in the U.S. Army.

Eastwood was in a plane crash and thought it was over for a moment. “But then I thought, other people have made it through these things before. I kept my eyes on the lights on shore and kept swimming.”

He apparently never took his eyes off those lights. He befriended a number of actors and Hollywood insiders when he was in the Army, and sought them out after he was discharged. He moved to Los Angeles and pursued a career in film.

Eastwood was not considered the typical Hollywood leading man. He was awkward, and spoke soft and slowly. He did make the perfect cowboy, and later tough guy. Eastwood claims he liked the idea of playing 'the anti-hero,' and he's built a career on it.

Eastwood credits his 90-year-old friend for advice that has kept him going. "Never let the old man in," the friend told Eastwood. Advice the 86-year-old has taken to heart.
