Chinese Couple Sells Baby, Splurges On Cell Phones And Clothes With Proceeds

It’s an expensive world that we live in, and that means that sometimes we need to tighten the belt buckles and control our spending so that we’re living well within our means. The other approach that one can take revolves around putting material possessions at the top of the list, and neglecting other responsibilities as a result.

For the latter approach, the quest for the things you want can lead to some incredibly questionable decisions, and sometimes even downright shocking ones. Like the one that this couple made.

As the Daily Mail shares, a couple from China has been outed for an unfathomable decision they have made concerning their own child. The couple decided that they were simply too poor to care for their own child, so they decided that instead of extending some extra effort, they would simply offer the child up for auction to the highest bidder.

That led them to take to social media to share their unusual story and hunt for bidders. Their quest turned out to be a success, as one bidder was willing to fork over 19,000 yuan for the two-month-old boy. This story is repulsive enough as it is, but it gets even worse when you realize what the couple used the funds for.

The couple, who is said to be in their 20’s, would take their newfound wealth and splurge on new mobile phones and clothes. Yes, really. The father has been identified only by his surname of Zou, while his girlfriend remains unidentified.

Concerned citizens spotted the couple’s repulsive cry for help on the social media platform WeChat, and the authorities were promptly notified.

The Ganzhou police were able to track down the father, and he admitted that he had sold the baby to a family in a nearby village. The baby was tracked down, but the woman that was caring for him tried to convince officers that the child had been given to her.

Her story unraveled, and she would come clean on the fact that she had purchased the baby. Zou also confessed to selling the child, and he was promptly arrested.

He explained to officers that he and his girlfriend were poor. Upon receiving the funds, they purchased food, clothes and two mobile phones.

If you’re thinking that this is beyond outrageous, you’re not alone. While it’s unclear exactly what the couple’s family situation is, perhaps they could’ve asked for a hand to get through the rough patch they were experiencing.

It’s also unclear what the economic conditions are in their community, but parents the world over manage to find a way to make it and provide for their children.

It’s unclear if the girlfriend will be arrested as well, but it’s quite clear that this couple needs some serious punishment for their unfathomable actions. Being a parent is a privilege.

If you are unable to care for your child, look into adoption prior to birth. There are plenty of families out there that are unable to conceive that would be more than happy to welcome a new little one into their home.
