Chicago Marine Barred From Walking Stage At Graduation Because Of Uniform

Megan Howerton, who graduated from McHenry High School West Campus on Thursday, was banned from walking at her graduation because she chose to wear her uniform instead of her cap and gown at a high school in Chicago. She wore her blue dress when officials prevented her from participating in the ceremony. The Chicago school district caused a social media firestorm with Megan's supporters using the hashtag, #LetMeganWalk.

On Friday, McHenry Community High School District 156 released a statement saying attention from the graduation ceremony ‘is unfortunate and draws attention away from the collective achievements of the Class of 2016’. The statement went on to state that school officials “in no way looked to prevent the participation of this graduate or any graduate who has chosen to serve our nation.”
