Can You Solve This Math Puzzle? Most Aren’t Able To

Put on your thinking cap; there's a new Facebook puzzle stumping people. Are you math whiz enough to figure it out?

At first glance, the math sentences in the puzzle look like something out of a second-grade text book. But they're not as simple as they may look.

The first math sentence says 1 plus 4 equals 5, and that's correct. The second and third looked like someone's calculator is off. How did the puzzle creator figure that 2 plus 5 equals 12, or that 3 + 6 equals 21?

Before you go thinking that it's wrong, remember—it’s a puzzle, not a math test. Look a little more closely, and maybe you can figure out the correct answer to the final sentence: 8 + 11.

Nope, it's not '19.' Are you ready to give up yet?

Spoiler alert! The final answer is '40.' Here's the catch: you're not just adding the number sentence; you're also adding the sum of the sentence above.

If 2 plus 5 plus 5 (above) equals 12, then 3 plus 6 plus 12 equals 21. Finally, 8 plus 11 plus 21 equal 40.

Pass it on to your friends and see if they can figure it out.
