California Students Diagnosed With Disease All The Way Back From Bible Era

When you hear the word leprosy it brings to mind a dark biblical scene of suffering individuals who’ve been cast away for their ailment that caused their limbs to fall off. You also think that the disease is something that was only around thousands of years ago.

However, according to Your Nation News, leprosy it totally still a thing. It’s just not as terrifying or life and limb threatening as it used to be. There are about 100 to 200 cases of leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, each year and it’s now curable.

Two schoolchildren in Riverside County in California are reported to have leprosy. The school sent home a letter notifying them that two kids have potential cases of leprosy and advised parents that there is no risk to other students in the school. The school was also cleaned and sterilized.

Of course parents freaked out anyway and took their kids out of school. I guess the Bible scared people so well that the are still stigmatizing leprosy. USA Today reports that it’s still not clear how the children caught it. It is possible to catch leprosy from an armadillo, but it’s a very low risk. You can also catch it through prolonged contact with someone else who has leprosy. About 95 percent of people are naturally immune to leprosy.
