Burglar Makes Big Mistake, Leads Police Right To Her

A burglary suspect in Madisonville, Kentucky made a mistake when she called 911 to help prevent a fire at the house she was allegedly trying to rob. Mary K. Smith, 42, was in the home attempting to steal prescription medication and cigarette filters when she noticed the kitchen stove was turned on. Smith lives several doors down from the home she was robbing, and she called 911. Smith was still there when the firefighters arrived.

They soon became suspicious about why she was in the home in the first place. When Smith returned to her home, firefighters called for a police assistant. The responding officer said that the suspect admitted entering the home intending to steal the medication and cigarette filters. Smith also admitted stealing a little red wagon from the home. Smith was charged with second-degree burglary and taken to the Hopkins County Detention Center. She is still there pending $2,000 bail.
