Burglar Dies from Chimney Fire

In Fresno County, Sheriff's Lt. Brandon Pursell said a homeowner in the rural town of Huron heard someone yell after lighting a fire in his fireplace.

The homeowner did call 911 and lit a fire without knowing a suspected burglar was stuck in the chimney. The homeowner then tried to put out the fire when firefighters rushed to the scene.

The firefighters used jackhammers to break open the brick chimney in order to rescue the burglar. The unidentified burglar had already passed away.

Pursell did say the man was was responsive during the rescue and appeared to be breathing and moving inside of the chimney.

According to KFSN, the man had climbed into the chimney overnight when he got stuck. The Fresno County coroner will perform an autopsy on Sunday to determine the man's identity and cause of death.
