Brilliant Child Forced From Chess Tournament Due To Her 'Seductive' Skirt

One young girl in Malaysia was the chess champion of her district, and she looked forward to competing in the National Scholastic Chess Championship 2017 in Putrajaya. The girl started the second round feeling confident when the tournament came to a screeching halt for her. She was told she was dressed inappropriately and forced to withdraw.

Chin Wai Ling, the mother of the 12-year-old girl, is livid. She bought her daughter three dresses for the three-day tournament and followed the World Chess Federation's Laws of Chess when picking them out. While nothing was mentioned about the hemline length, Ling bought her daughter dresses that came down to the child's knee. For most people, it seemed perfectly respectable.

The chief arbiter of the competition and tournament director didn't agree. The arbiter went on the stage during the second round, while the game was still in progress, and said the girl's dress was 'seductive' and a 'temptation from a certain angle far, far away.'

"I tried to explain to the chief arbiter that I only brought three dresses of similar length for the three-day event, and the fact that she had tights on," Chin said. "So nothing was revealed. I tried to reason."

The pre-pubescent child was distraught, but she was told she could return to the competition if she changed her outfit into something more appropriate. No stores were open by the time she was told this, so her mother was unable to go shop for a new outfit. By the next day, the girl was forced out of the contest.

The girl's teacher is furious and posted an image of the dress on Facebook. Commenters agree that there was nothing inappropriate about the outfit.

"We demand a public apology from Tournament Director of National Scholastic Chess Championship 2017. In the event, we do not receive a public apology in the next 5 days, we shall have no choice but to resort to legal proceedings," wrote the girl's teacher, Kaushal Khandhar, in a Facebook post.
