Boyfriend Blinds Woman In Grizzly Attack, Father Offers Reward To Get Her Justice

Chelsea Simmons, 20, of Centralia was almost killed by her boyfriend, Cedric Powe, 27, during an argument in 2013. The Missouri woman was viciously assaulted, causing permanent vision loss in one eye. The woman's father is allegedly offering a $500 reward to anyone who can provide information on the whereabouts of the attacker. Chelsea’s stepmother Melissa Zack said, “Apparently he choked her until she passed out, brought her back, then choked her again and continually stomped on her head. She's scared and she probably will be forever.”

Also known as Moe by friends, Powe allegedly moved to the south side of St. Louis after the beating. The warrant charges allege that Powe took considerable steps towards first degree murder or causing great bodily harm by choking his girlfriend. The aggravated domestic battery charge alleges that Powe punched and kicked Simmons. Simmons’ stepmother went on to say, “He needs to be caught so that this doesn't happen to anyone else, and I don't have to worry about it happening to her ever again." Medical professionals say it's a miracle she survived. In 2008 Powe was charged with domestic battery and obstruction of justice.

He plead guilty to the obstruction of justice charge and was sentenced to one year of imprisonment. However, because of his guilty plea, the domestic battery charge was dismissed. On Dec. 27, 2013 Simmons filed a restraining order against Powe, but Powe had a history of violating restraining orders, including two instances in 2008 and 2009. Powe was eventually caught. In April 2015, he was given the maximum sentence of 14 years in jail for aggravated domestic battery.
