Boy Plays Secret Santa for Families Spending Their Holidays at the Hospital

Jerry Hatcher Jr. was awake before the sun on Christmas Eve day. This was because he had one objective that day--to be a blessing to others.

He went to the children's hospital in Atlanta with something in his pocket that he had been saving for a year. He then walked into the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta cafeteria and hid behind one of the cash registers. He devised a plan out of a heartbreaking experience he had a few years earlier. He waited for an unsuspecting hungry hospital guest to arrive.

A tired woman, who was spending the holidays with her ill child, arrived to get something to eat. Jerry jumped up from behind the register and paid for her meal. He also shouted "Merry Christmas!"

For over a year, Jerry saved up his money to do exactly this. In addition, he paid for as many meals as he could until his allowance ran out. Crista Resch wrote on the hospital’s Facebook “Talk about unexpected blessings and kindness. Totally caught me off guard, as you can see. Such a sweet young man.”

Kris Nichols, another hospital guest blessed by Jerry's kindness, gave him $40 to keep his good deed going that day. Jerry almost lost his little brother in a children’s hospital. Since his brother had recovered, Jerry had been saving money for less fortunate families for the past three years.
