Boy Has Dying Wish, Firefighters Go Above And Beyond To Make It Happen (Video)

A lot of children go through a phase and say they want to be a firefighter when they grow up. Unfortunately, one little boy with this aspiration wasn't going to grow up. He suffered from a terminal illness, and his time was short. Thankfully for him, his local fire department wanted to make sure he lived the dream.

Connor Wilson was only a year old he was diagnosed with anaplastic ependymoma - pediatric brain tumors. The doctors didn't think he'd live to see the age of two, but the little fighter shocked everyone by living to the age of six.

The Alabama boy still dreamed of the future. He wanted to be a firefighter, but it was unlikely that Connor was going to be able to continue cheating death. After surgery, treatments and radiation, a new, stubborn tumor near Connors brain stem was just not responding. Tumors spread down his spine, and Connor's time grew short.

The local fire department heard that Connor wanted to join them, so he was invited to spend the day with them. Connor was officially made an honorary 'Jr. Firefighter.'

Connor got a department shirt with his name on it. They let him train with the fire hose from his wheelchair and helped him hold onto it. The guys at the firehouse did everything to make the day they spent with Connor memorable.

“These guys get real attached to these kids because they have kids too. When you have a sick child, it just draws you a little be closer to what the reality is about living,” Fire Chief Donnie West said, according to AL.com. “I know it’s hard on these guys when we respond to calls on small kids, and they really kind of rallied together on this one.”

Sadly, Connor passed away not long after his special day with the firefighter. The smiles on his face in the photos, however, prove one thing: it's quality of life that counts, not quantity.
