Blue Lives Matter Flag Draws Ire From Neighbors Who Call It "Racist"

A homeowner and Home Owner Association (HOA) are going head-to-head over a 'Blue Lives Matter' flag. A neighbor complained that the flag, which shows support for law enforcement, is 'racist'. The homeowners are not going down without a fight.

The owner of the St. Johns County, Florida home had been flying the flag for a long time. The 'Blue Lives Matter' flag features a black and white American flag with a single blue line across the center. After a neighbor complained that showing support for police is a form of racism, the HOA demanded the flag be taken down.

The homeowner did take the flag down. Instead, her father helped her devise a clever solution. Instead of flying a flag outside her home, he helped her rig a project that projected an image of the flag onto her garage door.

“It doesn’t seem to quite be covered that a projector from a vehicle projecting on your garage door is a violation of the HOA,” Jeff Gaddie said.

The flabbergasted HOA has called a meeting. While they haven't accused the display of being racist, they do insist that only American flags and military flags are allowed to be flown, as per the HOA guidelines. Projections of flags have them completely stumped.

Gaddie says his daughter attempted to contact the First Coast Association Management about the HOA rules, but the company has ignored them. A meeting tonight will determine the fate of the family's show of support.

It seems that not all homeowners feel the same way about the flag being racist. In protest of the HOA, a number of houses have been flying the Blue Lives Matter flag. The HOA hasn’t gotten around to trying to get them all down yet.

“If it was something for some other non-important cause, it wouldn’t be an issue, but something this important you almost have to,” Gaddie said.
