Bills Fans Adopt New Tradition: Throwing Sex Toys On Field When Patriots Come To Town

Of the many great things that go along with the game of football, the traditions have to be at the top of the list. Whether we’re talking about games at the level of high school, college, or the pros, the traditions are part of what helps bring the fans together - and keeps them coming back for more. These traditions run the gamut from tailgating rituals before the games to things that take place in the stands, and some of the more special ones are reserved for the all-important rivalry games.

Each team has some naturally built in rivals. That could be due to geographic proximity, the fact they reside in the same division, or just because they’ve had many memorable tilts in the past. Either way, fans tend to circle these rivalry games on the schedule, and you can be sure that the teams do the same - whether they admit it or not. There’s always something special about a rivalry game, especially when there’s something on the line.

This past weekend, one of those games took place when the New England Patriots hit the road to take on the Buffalo Bills. The teams reside in the same division, and they’ve had some memorable affairs through the years. When you add in the fact that both clubs are fighting for playoff positioning, there was a special atmosphere attached to the game. The fact that the Patriots have had a rather large edge in recent years only added to the anticipation, as Bills fans were surely holding out hope that this game would serve as a breakthrough.

As the Huffington Post shares, that didn’t come to pass as the Patriots handled the Bills with ease, but that doesn’t mean that something memorable didn’t happen. During the third quarter, something rather strange appeared on the field. Several users on social media were gracious enough to share what it was.

“Another dildo thrown onto field #Bills-Patriots. Was sitting just on field at Buff 22yd line. Refs just convened to, er, observe. including Steratore,” shared one user.

Wait a second - did he say another one? What’s that all about? Turns out the same thing happened last year when the Patriots came to town, much to the amusement of quarterback Tom Brady, who offered up his thoughts on the strange occurrence.

“I thought it was funny the ref didn’t want to pick it up. He was kicking it,” Brady said after the game. “Nobody wanted to reach down and grab it. That was very unusual. That was a first. Only in Buffalo.”

So is this a newfound tradition for Bills fans? We can’t say with certainty, but two years in a row points to the beginning of a trend. Of course, fans that throw things onto the field run the risk of being caught and kicked out, so there is some risk involved when it comes to making sure this one continues in future years. That said, few would have predicted that sex toys would appear on the field in successive years to begin with, so we’ll consider all bets to be off.
