Bill Cosby Accusers Claim His Legal Team Is Withholding Key Documents

Disgraced star Bill Cosby made it through the first trial stemming from a plethora of sexual assault allegations relatively unscathed, but the matter isn’t simply going away. The case is slated to be retried next year, but defendants in the case are apparently having some trouble getting things together on their end. As the Daily Mail shares, that’s because they claim that Cosby’s legal team is dragging its feet on sharing key documents related to the case.

Tamara Green was one of the first women to come forward with sexual assault allegations against Cosby, and she would eventually go ahead and file suit for defamation. She was soon joined by six other women that claimed the same thing had happened to them at the hands of Cosby. Cosby and his representatives claimed that Green was a liar and that she had made the whole thing up, and the ensuing trial resulted in a hung jury.

A retrial has been scheduled for April 2018, and new papers have been filed with the court that claims that the Cosby legal team isn’t being forthcoming enough with information.

“Court papers filed in Massachusetts on behalf of Green on Wednesday, accuse Cosby and his team of trying to 'tilt the playing field even further in his favor' by restricting the case to only third-party discovery,” the Mail reports. “While Coby's criminal trial was ongoing against Andrea Constand the court granted his team's request for a stay on discovery on their behalf, meaning that Green's team was halted in their case while Cosby was not.”

As Green and her team see it, Cosby is receiving special treatment here, and that’s not going to fly as far as they’re concerned.

“Court papers claim that Cosby 'has enjoyed the benefits of a one-sided stay, free to conduct discovery unhindered while giving up nothing to Plaintiffs in return,'” the Mail adds. “Now, Green wants Cosby to fork over documents in a timely fashion so that they can proceed with building their case.”

According to Green, she first brought the charges to light during an interview with the Philadelphia Daily News in 2005. She reiterated the claims in a television appearance, and she provided more details during an interview with Newsweek in 2014. Green became bolder in 2014, as she dropped the ‘sexual predator’ label on Cosby, and vividly explained how he ‘groomed’ her for the assault. She also alleged that dozens of other women had suffered the same at the hands of Cosby, but representatives for the star rebuffed the claims and branded her as a liar.

As Green explains it, she became entangled in Cosby’s web due to promises of fame. That would eventually lead to the star giving her what she referred to as two pills before he sexually assaulted her one day. Similar reports have emerged from other Cosby accusers, and they have all followed the same pattern. We’ll have to wait and see how the retrial shakes out, but it wouldn’t be making it that far if there wasn’t at least a possibility there was some wrongdoing on the star's part.
