Belgian Woman Joins ISIS And Lives To Tell Her Horrifying Tale

Laura Passoni, 30, met a man at her local grocery store and didn't realize that meeting would change her life forever. Osama Rayan wanted more than just a few dates and her hand in marriage. In fact, it wasn't long before Osama convinced Laura to become a Muslim.

Laura said, “I was not forced to become a Muslim, I was persuaded. You just get washed away, like trying to stand against a waterfall.” Sadly, things would just get worse from there. Laura was shown a few ISIS propaganda videos when she agreed to move to Syria and join the ISIS caliphate.

She took her two children and crossed over the border from Syria with Rayan. That is when Laura soon realized things were not as rosy as she expected. They settled in al-Bab, just outside of Aleppo. Laura remembered, “Once I got there though, I really got to know the meaning of terror.” They did not beat her, but they had very strict rules that Laura had not known of before she decided to join. Laura says she was forced to stay in the house to cook and clean. She stated:

“I was forbidden to do anything, I just had to take care of the home and children. I could not leave the house or use the internet without the presence of a man.”

“I started to become very afraid that they might take my children away. It was just the opposite of what they promised in the propaganda of the Caliphate. I decided I wanted to escape when I realized there was a very real risk my son might end up a terrorist.”

Thankfully, Laura was eventually able to get her hands on a cell phone. She called her parents, and some locals allegedly helped her escape with her children. When she got back to Belgium, the government immediately arrested her.

She was able to convince the courts that she had made a terrible and misinformed decision. She was fined $17,000 and sentenced to five years of probation. After three months, her children were released to her grandparents.

Laura was only recently able to visit them. She said, “I accepted the punishment. To be honest it was a relief compared to the hell that I went through in Syria.” Laura added, “My advice to young women is if you are considering it, don’t do it.”
