Barber Goes to Jail for Bad Haircut, Which He Deliberately Did to Punish a Child

A young boy went to a barber in Luton, England for a haircut. The barber, Abdulrahim Omar, became angry at the boy and decided to punish him by giving him a humiliating cut.

Patrons in the shop watched and laughed as the barber carried out the assault. He's now been sentenced to eight months in jail for the deed.

The young boy, whose name has not been released, attempted to use a razor himself. The 10-year-old gave himself a haircut, and he was very proud of it. The barber, Abdulrahim Omar, didn't like the idea of the child using the razor on himself and wanted to teach him a lesson.

The 21-year-old barber says he was mad because razors can be dangerous in the hands of a child. To punish the boy, he put the shortest setting on a pair of electric clippers and shaved the boy's head.

According to police reports, others visiting the barber shop sat around and watched. The crowd laughed at the boy, further humiliating him.

After the forced haircut was over, Omar made the boy sweep up his own hair.

Police arrested Omar and he was charged with causing actual bodily harm.

"The young man was proud of his hairstyle and felt that it was important to him. He suffered psychological and physical harm," said the prosecuting attorney.

"Mr. Omar recognizes he made a grave mistake. He fully understands it now. He is of previous good character and pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and is very, very sorry for his actions," said Ahtiq Raja, the attorney for the defense. "He knows there is no excuse and knows what he has done is fundamentally wrong. The actions were a one off."

Omar pleaded guilty to the charges. Judge Richard Foster sentenced the young barber to eight months in jail.

"This offence was the premeditated humiliation of a 10-year-old. It was despicable conduct to treat a child in that way," said Judge Foster. ""There is no excuse for what you did. It was a most disgusting piece of humiliation."

Omar is not the first barber who decided to punish an unruly child by giving him an unflattering haircut. In the U.S., a barber in Georgia offered parents the opportunity to bring naughty children in for punishment cuts.

Russell Fredrick, the owner of the shop, tells parents to ask for the 'Benjamin Button Special', a haircut his team performs free of charged. The style involves shaving the hair off the top of the child's head, and leaving some at the sides and over the nape of the neck. It gives the child the look of a balding senior citizen.

Children getting the Benjamin Button style cut are usually ridiculed by their peers. Parents hope that this kind of consequence will make their children tow the line.

Fredrick and his team of barbers have not faced any legal issues for the haircut, mainly because it's done with parental permission. In fact, they've gotten a lot of praise for the offering. "There are a few people that are saying it's emotional abuse; but on average, everyone is applauding the mother that brought the child in —- and applauding me as well," he said.
