Good Samaritan Rescued Baby Strapped To Drunk Oktoberfest Reveler

An American tourist went to Munich, Germany to celebrate Oktoberfest, but unfortunately it turned into a big October mess. The man had a baby in a baby carrier strapped to his chest, but it didn't stop him from celebrating a little too enthusiastically.

The man proceeded to drink until he was vomiting and stumbling. This resulted in a complete stranger attempting to rescue the baby and a police call.

The unnamed 28-year-old Texas man got so drunk at Oktoberfest in Germany that he was falling over, stumbling and puking. The whole time, he had the baby strapped to his chest.

It's unclear if the man was the baby's father or just babysitting for someone. A passerby saw the inebriated man sitting near an exit with the baby. He called police to come intervene, and managed to get the baby from the Texan.

Police attempted to question the man, but he was so intoxicated that they say he couldn't even answer simple questions. They took him to a local hospital and brought the baby to a police station. The baby was placed in the hands of a child welfare officer.

Oktoberfest is the world's largest annual festival held from September 17 through October 3 every year. Some six million visitors from around the world head to Munich for the festivities, and it seems that more and more Americans are looking to join in. While beer is not the intended focus of the festival, for many it has become everything.

Some American citizens have just let the excitement of Oktoberfest carry them away, much to their own detriment. Take one woman from Iowa who was overcome with the irresistible urge to attend the festival. No U.S. imitation festival was going to do, this woman decided she needed the real deal. She hopped a flight to Munich and left her four children home alone to fend for themselves.

The mother was gone for a full 11 days, but she probably thought her two 12-year-olds, seven-year-old and six-year-old would be able to take care of themselves. She even left them with a gun in case they had to defend themselves against intruders or rob grocery stores for food or something.

While she was in Germany partying, she got a call from police in America telling her she might want to come home soon. Her kids had been taken into custody by child protective services. The woman was charged with four counts of child endangerment and one count of making a firearm available to a minor.

So many Americans have gotten into trouble overseas at Oktoberfest that the U.S. has put out an advisory to warn people. For one thing, American tourists are warned not to hit someone with a beer mug. Apparently, in Germany, this will get you thrown in jail. With the size of those mugs, it's considered assault with a deadly weapon.

Another thing the U.S. warns travelers is that they shouldn't become a 'beer corpse'. That is, don't get so drunk you sit there in a stupor, because there are many pickpockets just waiting to steal everything you've got.

And for Pete’s sake, get a babysitter.
