Autopsy Reveals Happy Day's Star Greatly Suffered Before Her Recent Death

When Erin Moran was found dead in her Indiana residence, many speculated about the reason for the 56-year-old actress's demise. Initially, a lot of people suspected a drug overdose might have been behind the death. Moran was known to have struggled with addiction during her difficult life, but ultimately that's not what killed her.

Emergency responders were called to Moran's residence and told that there was an 'unresponsive female'. After an investigation and an autopsy, her death was found to be due to complications from stage four cancer.

According to the Sheriff's office, 'standard toxicology tests were performed and the results are pending, however, no illegal narcotics were found at the residence.'

Moran began her career as a model and actress at the age of five. She landed the role of Joanie Cunningham on 'Happy Days' at the age of 13, and it was this role for which she was best known for the rest of her life.

Moran continued playing Joanie regularly on 'Happy Days' until the eighth season when she and co-star Scott Baio were offered a spin-off, 'Joanie Loves Chachi'. The show didn't perform well and was canceled in 1983. Moran returned to 'Happy Days' for its final season.

Moran made several television show appearances in the years to follow but never found the same success she had on Happy Days. She had trouble finding work and struggled with depression. She went broke, with her and her former co-stars filing a lawsuit against CBS, owner of 'Happy Days', for not paying millions they felt they were owed in merchandising revenues.

Moran moved with her second husband and mother-in-law to a trailer park in Indiana. She was suffering from stage-four squamous cell carcinoma of the throat when she died.

Her former co-star Scott Baio had to apologize because he initially insinuated in a tweet that Moran died of drug and alcohol abuse.
