Aunt Sues Nephew For Outlandish Reason

Jennifer Connell is a 54-year-old Manhattan human resources who filed a lawsuit against her nephew, Sean Tarala and is seeking $127,000. Her lawsuit is based on injuries she allegedly sustained at Sean's eighth birthday party in 2011. The lawsuit claims that Sean was riding his new bicycle when he saw his aunt arrive at his Bridgeport home for his party.

He then allegedly dropped his bike, screamed his aunt's name, and leaped into her arms--causing both of them to tumble. Connell says she didn't mention she was hurt because she didn't want to ruin Sean's birthday party. Although, she says she suffered a broken wrist, which still bothers her today. On Friday, Connell testified in court about her condition:

“I live in Manhattan in a third-floor walk-up so it has been very difficult. And we all know how crowded it is in Manhattan. I was at a party recently, and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvre plate."

The now twelve-year-old Sean, whose mother died last year, reportedly appeared confused as he sat in the courtroom with his father. Connell says she loves her nephew but believes he should be held accountable. According to eLocal Lawyers, Americans spend about 2.2% of the country’s gross national product on civil litigation.
