Arrest For Alleged Sexual Assault Leaves Suspect In Tears

After allegedly exposing himself and threatening to slash a woman with a knife, a young man in Wisconsin cried as police snapped his mugshot, according to the Daily Mail.

The woman’s husband accused a reportedly drunken Anthony J. Zingale, 19, of attempting to rape his wife in a bathroom at the couple’s home during a party on May 28. “He pressed the knife to her neck and said he would cut her if she didn't have sex with him,” the Sheboygan Press reported. The woman escaped the frightening scene by suggesting that she and her assailant go to a bedroom. As soon as she got out of the bathroom, other partygoers responded to her calls for help.

The police soon arrived and arrested Zingale, who could spend 40 years in prison if a jury convicts him of first-degree sexual assault and carrying a concealed weapon. At last report, he was still being held at the Sheboygan County Detention Center.

Zingale allegedly admitted he had been consuming alcohol, though Wisconsin residents cannot legally drink until they are 21 years of age. The suspect claimed he needed to use the restroom, and was “embarrassed” to discover the woman there. He said she tried to grab his knife when he pulled down his pants, according to the Sheboygan Press.
