Arizona Mom Blames Energy Drinks For 16-Year-Old Daughter’s Fatal Heart Attack

A 16-year-old girl suffered a fatal heart attack while vacationing in Rocky Point, Mexico. According to Syracuse.com, energy drinks are being pointed to as the culprit for the shocking death.

Lanna Hamann was traveling with friends, and had reportedly spent the day prior to the fatal heart attack on the beach consuming energy drinks. The following day, the teen alerted the father of one of her friends that she was not feeling well. Not too long after, the 16-year-old star softball player would suffer the heart attack and pass away.

Her grieving mother, Kris Hamann, points directly to the energy drinks as a reason for the terrible tragedy, but shoulders plenty of the blame for herself.

"Obviously, this is something that could have happened anywhere, whether she was in Mexico or whether she was here in Arizona playing softball. (Parents should) make sure they're watching their kids. (Watch) what they're drinking and (make sure) they're drinking water instead of an energy drink," she said.

Complications with her daughter’s birth certificate necessitated that Kris fly down to the site of the tragedy to sign the death certificate. The family has set up the Lanna Hamann Memorial Fund to help with some of the expenses.
