Apparently, Pope Francis Was Less Than Enthused About Welcoming Trump To The Vatican

President Donald Trump stopped at the Vatican on Wednesday morning during his first foreign tour and met with Pope Francis. The president seemed very happy to meet with the Pope. The Pope didn't look as thrilled.

Pope Francis has never been a fan of Donald Trump. Back during the 2016 election, when Trump promised to build a wall to stop illegal immigrants from swarming across the Mexico-U.S. border, the Pope was highly critical.

"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel," said the Pope.

Then-candidate Trump shot back at the Pope, saying, "No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man's religion or faith."

Trump also mentioned, "If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS' ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been president."

Even though clearly frustrated with the Pope's criticism, the POTUS has said he does like the Pope. Trump was willing to let bygones be bygones on his visit to the Vatican, but apparently, the pope was not.

Apparently, Pope Francis said nothing when he met with Trump and didn't even smile.

"The Pope did not say anything. He did not smile," said the White House Pool Report. "He looked at pool several times. We were quickly ushered out at 8:33 a.m."

Trump said it was a “very great honor" to meet the Pope, a comment which the Pope seemed to ignore.

The Pope did present Mr. Trump with a medal depicting an olive, a symbol of peace. The design was made by a Roman artist.

"We can use peace," Trump responded.

The Pope also presented Trump with some of his teaching documents. President Trump promised to read them, though the president's position on the topics, which include global warming and income equality, differ with the Pope's teachings.

Trump presented the pontiff with books from Martin Luther King.

The two leaders then retreated behind closed doors for 30 minutes. When Mr. Trump emerged, he told Pope Francis, "Thank you. I won't forget what you said."

On his trip, Trump also met with Jewish and Muslim leaders. His goal was to show how they must all come together to fight Islamic terrorism.

"We thought that this trip was essential to put together the Muslim faith, the Jewish faith and then the Catholic faith, the Christian faith," said a senior White House official. "By putting everybody together you can really build a coalition and show that it's not a Muslim problem, it's not a Jewish problem, it's not a Catholic problem, it's not a Christian problem, it really is a world problem."
