Anti-Trump Celebrity Gets Arrested, Then Accused Of Racially Abusing Police Officer

Shia LaBeouf, an actor best known for his starring role in the Transformer franchise, has been filmed racially abusing a Georgia police officer. The eccentric actor was arrested by police officers from the Savannah-Chatham Police Department, and charged with several offences, including disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and obstruction. Mr. LaBeouf was in the Savannah area working on an independent film called ‘The Peanut Butter Falcon.’

Mr. LaBeouf was arrested after he began angrily demanding a cigarette from a police officer and an unnamed bystander. In the official Savannah-Chatham police report, the officer described that “When LaBeouf wasn’t given a cigarette, he became disorderly, using profanities and vulgar language in front of the women and children present.”

After the officer asked Mr. LaBeouf to leave the area, he became aggressive, drunkenly abusing the officer before running into a hotel lobby. Police officers arrested him shortly afterwards, booking him into the Chatham County Jail.

However, before he was booked into jail, Mr. LaBeouf was caught on camera insulting the arresting officers, saying: "you're going to hell, straight to hell bro." One of the officers, an African-American man named Devin, was singled out by LaBeouf. "You especially, Devin,” he said, adding: "cause he's a black man." TMZ released another video of the actor, showing him swearing at Savannah-Chatham police officers.

Mr. LaBeouf was released after several hours and he quickly released a statement about the incident, tweeting: “I am deeply ashamed of my behavior and make no excuses for it. I don’t know if these statements are too frequent, or not shared often enough, but I am certain that my actions warrant a very sincere apology to the arresting officers, and I am grateful for their restraint. The severity of my behavior is not lost on me.”

The controversial actor also addressed his long history of misbehavior and his destructive relationship with alcohol consumption, writing: “My outright disrespect for authority is problematic to say the least, and completely destructive to say the worst. It is a new low. A low I hope is a bottom. I have been struggling with addiction publicly for far too long, and I am actively taking steps toward securing my sobriety and hope I can be forgiven for my mistakes.”

The passionate message has been liked over 30,000 times and retweeted more than 5,400 times. As Mr. LaBeouf is an outspoken opponent to President Trump, many pro-Trump twitters users are using this incident to make political statements. Donald Trump Jr., reeling from allegations of Russian collusion, jumped on Mr. LaBeouf’s racist insults, tweeting: “Anti-Trump Celeb Shia LaBeouf’s Racist Side Comes out With Black Cop in New Police Video.”

Earlier this year, Mr. LaBeouf was arrested after becoming involved in an altercation outside a museum in New York. The infamous actor had been chanting “he will not divide us,” in a protest against President Trump.

At this stage, it remains unclear if Mr. LaBeouf has checked in for addictive counselling or psychological therapy.
