Ambulance Stolen By Ohio Man On Joyride Held Medic Still Treating A Patient

An Ohio man has been arrested after he stole an ambulance and took it for a joyride while a paramedic was attempting to treat a patient. Jeffrey Brown, 44, was charged with grand theft auto, kidnapping, abduction and failure to comply after police were finally able to capture him.

Mr. Brown allegedly took an ambulance vehicle for a “joyride” after he noticed the keys were left in the ignition while a paramedic was treating a patient outside the vehicle. However, before Mr. Brown stole the vehicle, he didn’t realize that another paramedic and patient were in the back.

Dashcam footage shows an intense chase between Mr. Brown and police, before Mr. Brown finally pulled over a mile and a half away. The dashcam footage shows police dragging Mr. Brown from the vehicle and handcuffing him, with one officer asking, “what were you thinking?”

Another officer reminded Mr. Brown that he “just kidnapped somebody,” a fact that will greatly increase his sentence; “You’re going to prison, buddy,” another officer concluded. Mr. Brown is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail.

A similar incident occurred in Macomb County, Michigan, where an individual stole an ambulance from a local hospital. Police followed the stolen vehicle onto the highway before the thief attempted to veer off course onto a stretch of parklands.

Police, instead of following the vehicle, bided their time, waiting until the ambulance eventually re-emerged back onto the highway. Once the driver re-emerged, they were pulled over and arrested.

Ambulance theft, a common occurrence across America, saw Jason Stegall, 36, steal an ambulance from Providence Hospital, Alabama, after attempting to escape from hospital custody. Mr. Stegall had been charged with theft of property and attempt to elude.

“As [police] arrived, the suspect jumped in the ambulance and drove off and officers pursued him,” police confirmed. During the pursuit, Mr. Stegall lost control of the vehicle whilst attempting to maneuver around a marked patrol car. The ambulance was completely overturned; however, thankfully, no one was injured.

“Everyone is safe, no one is hurt, everyone took the appropriate measures,” Hospital officials concluded. Mr. Stegall’s initial crime that landed him in the hospital has not been confirmed.

Adam Zaharick, 29, of Kulpmont, has also been accused and charged with robbery of a motor vehicle, robbery and burglary after he stole an ambulance to “score some oxy.” Mr. Zaharick was a patient at Geisinger Medical Center.

Upon his release, he decided to steal an ambulance and go for a joy ride. The two medics unfortunate enough to be stuck in the ambulance realized what was going on, “[jumping] out of the ambulance for their own safety,” Bob Hare, spokesperson for the Americus Hose Company Ambulance Service, stated.

Following his joy ride, Mr. Zaharick drove the ambulance through Geisinger’s campus, smashing into a truck as well as a pole. “I don’t know what all kind of damage he’s done, but the ambulance is pretty banged up,” Mr. Hare confessed.

Mr. Zaharick also attempted to steal multiple kinds of pills; however, Mr. Hare was grateful that no one was injured: “[The Ambulance] is just a vehicle. That can be replaced. The most important thing is that nobody was hurt.”
