Alec Baldwin's Tribute Event Draws Crowd Full Of Familiar Faces - And Jokes

Alec Baldwin is best known these days as the guy that impersonates President Donald Trump on NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live,’ but he’s also a star that has an incredibly impressive resume that’s chock full of hits. He was honored for his work Sunday night in a Spike TV 'One Night Only' special at New York City’s Apollo Theater, and a long list of Baldwin’s celebrity pals were on hand.

As the Daily News shares, among the stars in attendance were Robert De Niro, Julianne Moore, Jane Krakowski, and Tracy Morgan.

Former President Bill Clinton was also on hand, and he would grab the mic to share some kind words about Baldwin. Of course, that would also include a veiled shot at the current commander-in-chief.

“He was making movies in his backyard when he was five. He ended up going to George Washington University for two years, ran for student body president,” Clinton said. “Then came back home to New York where he followed the then-classic path - from politics into soap operas.... Now we know it works the other way round.”

The crowd ate up Clinton’s remarks, as many of the stars in attendance have taken umbrage with the fact that Trump is president. De Niro has made the biggest headlines with a number of angry remarks about Trump, including the fact that he thinks he’s an ‘idiot.’

The night wasn’t a complete Trump-bashing festival, and Clinton would quickly get back on point to return to the topic at hand.

“Tonight we've been reminded of this astonishing range of his career. With highlights that include his Tony-nominated performance in a Street Car Named Desire, his Oscar-nominated portrayal in the Cooler... and his great roles on 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live,” Clinton continued.

The former president would go on to recall his fondest memory about Baldwin, and it has nothing to do with anything he has accomplished on the screen.

“My most enduring memory of all the conversations we've ever had is the first time I came to his home and he told me his story. A great American story of a boy growing up in a big Irish Catholic family,” Clinton added. “(His parents) taught him that every person has an obligation to be a good and caring citizen.”

Two members of Baldwin’s famous family were also in attendance. Daniel and Billy Baldwin, who have followed in their brother’s acting footsteps, also appeared on stage. Actor Stephen Baldwin did not appear, but it’s unclear if that had anything to do with the fact that he’s a Trump supporter.

All in all, it looks like it was a memorable night for Baldwin. While he attracts headlines these days for both his Trump impersonation and his opposition to the president, he’s an accomplished star with a resume that stacks up against anyone in the industry.

Among his many credits are a lengthy run on the hit NBC sitcom ‘30 Rock,’ and films such as ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ and ‘It’s Complicated.’
