Alabama State Trooper Lends a Helping Hand to Struggling Father and Son

Officer Delvyon Williams was doing a routine patrol in Prattville when he noticed two men at an exit on Interstate 65. He decided to stop and do a welfare check on Sunday.

The father and son were there holding up a sign that read "Money or food." The officer went up to the father and son when the son told him they were hungry and needed food. Williams immediately thought of his own son at home.

Williams said, "As I was traveling, I thought I'd go back and get them something to eat to make them have a good day."

Later that day, Williams returned with a bag from McDonald's, and he said the father and son were "very appreciative." The touching moment was pictured by Raenetta Burch Bennett who was driving home when she saw Williams approach the father and son.

Bennett said she first thought the trooper was gong to arrest them, but she saw otherwise and took the picture. She said, "It was just me taking a picture because it touched me. We don't have as many genuine people out here these days."

Since she posted the photo, it has gone viral although she said she didn't expect that. Williams has been a trooper for nine years and said he was simply doing his job.

He added, "Being an officer, we have a lot of negativity. And this is positive for us, a positive outlook."
