After Video Of Newborn Goes Viral, Officials Issue Warning (VIDEO)

There are several methods and theories for dealing with colicky and restless newborn babies, and parents can sometimes find themselves trying some unconventional things in a bid to get some sleep for themselves. According to the Daily Mail, there’s a chiropractor in Australia that thinks adjusting the newborn as if they were a fully formed adult is a valid solution, and his methods have brought him under fire.

Video posted to the doctor’s YouTube channel show him clearly cracking the back of a four-day-old baby. He even explains the procedure to the captive parents and views the adjustment as the answer to their colic troubles.

“When you see the patients returned with these children, they always report that the child is just so much more comfortable, they sleep so much better, they eat so much better,” he explains.

Not so fast, explains Dr. Frank Jones, the president of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr. Jones wholeheartedly disagrees with the doctor’s assessment, and sounds seriously troubled that this practice would even enter the doctor’s consciousness.

“Well I think that this is an unnecessary and seemingly almost cruel process that there is actually no evidence to support. Why would you ever ever do that? It should not be advertised, it should not be practiced,” he said.

It’s unclear if any action will be taken against the doctor, but formal complaints have been issued to the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.
