After A Storm, People Find An Overturned Truck - Then They Discover What's Still Inside

Back in late April, a series of wicked storms wreaked havoc on the southern United States. A number of tornadoes broke out, including in the state of Texas, and those torrential storms tremendously impacted the region. Local resident Tom Mitchell took a ride around in search of people in need of help in the aftermath, and it’s a good thing he did. As the Independent Journal Review shares, he came across an overturned Chevrolet Silverado that had a family trapped inside amidst some treacherous flood waters.

Mitchell didn’t have the strength to help the family all by himself, but thankfully a crowd quickly gathered around. Those passersby would quickly leap into action to attempt to save the family, and Mitchell stopped to film the harrowing scene. There was an infant trapped inside, and the baby was the first to be freed.

“No color at all and the eyes were not focused when I looked down at her," he said as he recalled what he was thinking when he got a look at the family. "This baby may not make it, this baby may not make it. No reaction, nothing is happening.”

The gathered crowd was having the same thoughts, and it looked like the worst possible result was about to become a reality. Mitchell stopped recording and jumped to perform CPR on the baby.

“Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe. Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe,” said one woman.

Those prayers were answered, and Mitchell quickly realized his efforts were not in vain.

“Well the first prayer she said I felt a response in that child,” Mitchell explains.

The older child, who was just a toddler, was the next to be rescued. That child was struggling to breathe as well, but she turned out to be okay. The father was pulled from the truck soon thereafter, and the family was amazingly able to survive a situation that had looked like certain death.

The kids were sent to the hospital, and it looks like everyone is going to be okay in the long run. The family has set up a YouCaring page to help with the expenses, and the family has uploaded an update on the toddler, who had to remain in the hospital for extended care.

“Update on addy bug, she is stable and doing much better. Still under sedation but pulling the breathing tube in the morning to see if she can do it on her own,” the statement said.

The good samaritans in the video have yet to come forward, but local media outlets are attempting to identify them so that their heroic actions can be acknowledged properly. Mitchell notes that he wanted to share the video to show how powerful it can be when community and strangers come together to achieve a common goal.

He’s totally right about that, as this is an awesome example of what can happen when everyone just buckles down to achieve a common goal and help someone in need.
