80-Year-Old Woman Disappears Into The Woods, Walks Out Holding This

Rookie Maryland Police Officer Brandon Morrison said he was just doing what he was taught to do in the academy, protect and serve his community. A photo of Morrison and his encounter with an elderly woman with dementia is making it’s way around the internet.

Roberta Crowley, 80, was confused and lost in the woods when Morrison found her. So, the 21-year-old took her hand and led her back home.

“I wanted to make her feel comfortable," Morrison told PEOPLE. "She was disoriented and I wanted to help her stabilize. It's what any cop would have done."

The photo has been shared more than 51,000 times

"I saw our officer, the youngest on the team, helping this 80-year-old woman and it was very heartwarming," Charles County Sgt. Clarence Black tells PEOPLE. "The way they were talking it bridged that gap. He represents what police stands for. We are here to help serve the public. He was doing his duty to help her."

Crowley usually walks her dog three times a day but strayed from her normal route in Brandywine, Maryland that day. When her pet came home without her, whimpering her family called the police. She was found with the help of a police dog within 40 minutes.
